St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic lay charity that helps neighbors in need through local conferences and councils. The Los Angeles council, founded in 1908, has served the poor of the region for over a hundred years, offering food, shelter, clothing, and personal connection.
It serves people across Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara counties, regardless of faith.
SVdP Los Angeles runs a thrift store at 210 N Avenue 21 selling second-hand clothing, furniture, and household items, with proceeds funding its programs. It also offers a convenient free pickup of clean clothing, furniture, and working appliances in Los Angeles County.
To book a pickup, call 1-800-974-3571. For what they take and how pickup works, see our SVdP pickup guide.
Beyond the thrift store, the council provides general assistance to individuals and families and operates a transitional housing program, helping people move toward stability.
As a Vincentian organization, much of its work is person-to-person, carried out by volunteers connected to local parishes.
St. Vincent de Paul is a 501(c)(3), so cash and goods are tax-deductible when you itemize. Get a receipt at drop-off or pickup, and estimate the fair market value of goods yourself with our donation value guide.
To support the Los Angeles council, donate goods at the store, book a free pickup, or give through svdpla.org.
