About St. Vincent de Paul Baton Rouge

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Baton Rouge has worked to understand and meet the needs of the most vulnerable members of the community since 1865, marking 160 years of service to the 12-parish Baton Rouge area.

As a Catholic lay charity, it provides shelter, food, clothing, and medical and spiritual care to neighbors in need, regardless of faith.

Dining room, shelter, and thrift stores

The council opened its Dining Room in 1982, and it is the leading hot-meal provider in the Baton Rouge area, the only facility of its kind open seven days a week, 365 days a year. The Sweet Dreams Shelter on Convention Street provides a safe place for single women and women with children working toward independence.

St. Vincent de Paul opened its first thrift store in 1963 to provide no-cost clothing and household items to those in need and to raise funds; it now operates four store locations. Before donating, see what St. Vincent de Paul accepts.

Programs and services

Beyond meals and shelter, the council provides clothing and medical and spiritual care, and it operates healthcare services for people experiencing homelessness.

Its thrift stores both fund this work and supply clothing and household goods directly to people in need.
