The Council of Pittsburgh is part of the Catholic lay Society of St. Vincent de Paul, serving six counties of southwestern Pennsylvania: Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Greene, Lawrence, and Washington. It reaches more than 100,000 neighbors in need each year.
The council supports local conferences whose volunteers provide direct, person-to-person help, regardless of faith.
SVdP Pittsburgh operates five thrift stores, in Butler, Castle Shannon, Coraopolis, Monroeville, and Swissvale, along with a warehouse and a recycling, transportation, and logistics center in Penn Hills. Sales fund the council's services and support the local conferences.
