Faithful Friends Animal Society is a no-kill nonprofit serving the Wilmington area of Delaware, now based in New Castle. It began as an advocacy group working to end shelter killing in the state, and it runs adoption, a low-cost community veterinary clinic, a pet food bank, and a community cat program. Here is how its services work.
Faithful Friends Animal Society is a no-kill, limited-admission nonprofit, which means animals stay until they are placed and intake is managed by space and appointment. It started as an advocacy organization formed to expose and end the killing of animals in Delaware's publicly funded shelters, and that advocacy is still part of its identity.
It is not the state animal-control shelter. Delaware's open-intake and stray contract is held by Brandywine Valley SPCA, so Faithful Friends does not handle strays or animal control. It cares for cats and dogs, with some small mammals available for adoption.
Adoption runs through an application on ShelterLuv for dogs, cats, and small mammals, and in-person visits are welcome. The shelter is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., and is closed Sunday and Monday. Specific adoption fees are not posted, so check the current fee for an animal you are interested in.
The Community Veterinary Clinic is open to the public and offers low-cost spay and neuter and vaccines on a sliding scale, performing more than 2,200 surgeries a year.
The free Pet Food and Supply Bank serves around 3,600 people a year, with delivery available, and the community cat program provides trap, neuter, vaccinate, and return services, with traps available for a refundable deposit.
The foster program covers short-term, long-term, and hospice care, with the organization covering medical care and food, and it places about 1,000 pets in foster homes a year. Faithful Friends holds a four-star rating from Charity Navigator with a 93 percent score and the Candid Platinum Seal. Its EIN is 51-0410508.
