All of Wyoming sits within a single diocese, the Diocese of Cheyenne, so Catholic Charities of Wyoming is the statewide Catholic social services agency. Wyoming's refugee population is small compared with neighboring states, but for the families involved, mostly in Cheyenne and Casper, the agency's resettlement coordination and immigration legal services are among the few options available anywhere in the state. Distance is the constant complication. Wyoming pairs the smallest state population in the country with one of the largest land areas, so a single statewide agency cannot keep an office in every town. If you need help and live far from Cheyenne or Casper, contact the agency anyway; staff can often point you to the closest available resource even when it isn't their own program.
The agency runs programs serving the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho communities on the Wind River Reservation, where food insecurity is severe and mainstream social services are hard to reach. In much of rural Wyoming the nearest food pantry or caseworker can be a long drive away; on the reservation those gaps are wider still, which is why this outreach is a distinctive part of the agency's work.
