How to Make the Best Homemade Pizza Cast Iron Skillet Pizza

Crust Instructions:
Step 1
In a large mixing bowl whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Step 2
Add water and olive oil together in a measuring cup.

Step 3
Slowly add the water mixture to the flour mixture, mixing the two together as you add the
water mixture.

Step 5
Mix the dough with a wooden spoon or your hands until the dough becomes soft but not
sticky and well combined. If the dough is dry add water a tablespoon at a time until the
dough is soft.

Step 6
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Preheat cast iron skillet in the oven for 3-5 minutes.

Step 7
While the pan heats, roll out the dough into a round shape, like a dough ball, big enough to cover the
bottom of your pan, plus about an inch up the sides. Allow the dough to relax and re-
stretch if needed. Homemade pizza crust is really the best and you can decide whether you want your homemade pizza dough recipe to have a thick crust or crispy crust based on how thin you roll it out.

Putting Your Cast-Iron Skillet Pizza Together
Step 8
After the pan is preheated remove from the oven and place on a wire rack. Sprinkle the
bottom of the pan with cornmeal and place dough in the bottom of the pan, working the
edges up the sides. Be careful, the pan will be HOT!

Step 9
Place the pan back in the oven and bake for 3-5 minutes, remove when dough starts to
rise.

Step 10
Brush the outer edges with a thin layer olive oil and spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough,
bringing it right to the edge of the pizza. I like doctoring up the pizza sauce with some red pepper flakes, garlic powder, kosher salt, and dried Italian herbs.

Step 11
Top with mozzarella and your choice of pizza toppings. My favorite are green and red peppers, caramelized onions, sausage, mushrooms, the more veggies the better! I also like to use a parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese mixture. Everything goes on top of the dough!

Step 12
Bake for 10-12 mins, or until the mozzarella is golden brown and bubbling and the crust
is cooked through.

Step 13
Slice and serve immediately. Store leftovers in airtight container in refrigerator.

How to Make Homemade Gluten Free Pizza
If you have a gluten allergy of sensitivity, you can make homemade gluten free pizza by changing a few ingredients of this recipe.
Replace the all-purpose flour with a gluten free all-purpose flour that has xantham gum in it (like King Arthur gluten free all-purpose flour).
Also, double check that your baking powder and your corn meal are gluten free, and make sure that you use gluten free toppings (for example, some pepperoni is not gluten free).
