Make-A-Wish Foundation of America

A wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a critical illness.

When you have a wish, it becomes the driving force behind your life. But what happens when that wish is taken away? We at Make-A-Wish are dedicated to making sure every eligible child gets their one true chance of happiness and excitement in these difficult times.

Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

Wishes are more than just a nice thing. They’re far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact every person involved—wish kids, volunteers, donors and sponsors; medical professionals and communities alike can benefit from wishes coming true for wish kids like they did for me when I was sick at ten years old with leukemia. For my parents that year alone it put their hope back into us–my mom would come home after work eagerly asking what we were going to do next as soon as she came through the door so excited by all of our newfound plans while dad went on grocery shopping runs eager to stock up everything he could find (especially anything orange!) After weeks where there had been only questions about how much longer.

Our Wish Kids

Our Wish Kids

The act of granting a child’s wish changes the trajectory of their fight against illness. The opportunity to explore new worlds, meet famous people and animals, or live out lifelong dreams can provide children with hope in times when they feel at their lowest points. Doctors have seen firsthand how some wishes even work together with medicine to heal patients on an emotional level as well as physically; that is why we grant these powerful experiences for those who need it most: our young ones battling critical illnesses so often before them.
