He was cherished and adored by many family members and friends and by all who met him. He was comical, did things his own way, and lived a blessed life. The stories he would share with people would fill them with laughter and joy and the nicknames he would create for his close friends and loved one was truly John’s gift. Besides his loving wife Betty, John leaves behind to cherish his memory his two sons, John C. Donato Jr. and his wife Lindsey of Middlebury and Michael R. Donato of Wolcott. To offer your sympathy during this difficult time, you can now have memorial trees planted in a National Forest in memory of your loved one. He had a way of talking with you that always made you feel special. I know he will be greatly missed by all. He died on Monday of heart failure while visiting family in Marion, Conn., Walsh said.

Most recently, he divided his time between his homes in Eatontown, and Wellington, Fla. John lived an accomplished life both personally and professionally. From humble beginnings, John worked tirelessly to build a thriving construction company.

He was a mentor and even a father-figure to many people, always full of practical life advice and a desire to help others around him become better people from the inside-out. He would regularly give fatherly guidance to many, but especially to his two sons, who he helped mold into the adults they have become. John will be missed dearly by his family and friends. My sincerest condolences to the Donato Family on the sudden passing of your brother, son and dear uncle.

And no one could wear a lime green or pink blazer like he could. Condolences, thoughts & prayers to all family & friends of John. What an outstanding man in so many ways.
